BITMAP GRAPHICS : Free Stuff


These bitmap art files are available in GIF or JPEG formats.
Most of these files are TILE graphics and they join up to make an infinitely large background.
Some background files are dark and subtle and you may have to look hard to see the detail.

Background GRIP 1

Tile = 8 x 8 pixel. I made this in the old days of Windows 3.11 and it was supposed to look like those steel floors with non-slip textures. Anyway I like it so much, I'm still using it now.
_ BkgSea1 _ -
Background SEA 1

Tile = 8 x 8 pixel. Same story as above except coloured for marine and oceanic use.
_ BkgHevn1 _ -
Background HEAVEN 1

Tile = 44 x 36 pixel. This is a bigger tile using an Islamic motif/ pattern I developed. It's a good tile motif but not so smooth as a computer background.

Background HEAVEN 2

Tile = 44 x 36 pixel. Same as above but using different colours.

This section contains basic colours I designed for making game-maps... but I never got around to making the maps.

All tiles are 16 x 16 pixels. They were originally meant as basic background colours. Each tile has a tiny bit of variation but the effect varies with the base colour.

The above basic colour tiles are also available as yBasic00.wad file.

Here is the fun section where I've used photos to make tile-able surfaces. They vary in size but aren't very big. Not all the photos are good for very large areas 'cos you can sometimes see the repetition. Mind you, some of the source materials are taken from corners or backgrounds of my photos (without all the people in it). I didn't have tiling in mind at the time... lol.

The above photo tiles are also available as yAsian00.wad file and as yNature0.wad file.

Actually, you can make tiles yourself. You need a photo editing software like maybe GIMP. Here are the steps:-
1. Divide the photo into 4 quadrants

2. Cut & Paste the quadrants like so

This shows you all the join lines. It helps to zoom in while pasting.
3. Use the "clone tool" to soften up the edges and occasionally overlap. Try to keep it looking natural.
That's it!


Here are some other graphics I did a while ago.
File • _CODE FLAG_ • contains international code-flags used at sea. Basically from top-left, it's A, B, C etc and the long flags are 1, 2, 3, etc.

File • _LYC SITE MAP_ • This is a site-map of the Langkawi Yacht Club (in Malaysia) with the sea-bed topology relief at 1 metre intervals. The club mooring facilities have since been expanded and so this map is a bit defunct now.

File • _KOMMIES 3_ • This was developed for a T-Shirt project for newsgroup regulars of news:tmnet.communities known as Kommies. I of course like the design a lot but the general feeling was that it's kinda scary to wear in public. I was made for fun anyway. I'm not sure if you can read the tiny border text.
